1,3-Dioxolane

As the second monomer for polyacetal production, 1,3-dioxolane has attracted great attention in recent years due to the expansion of its application, such as the solvent for grease, dyes, cellulose derivatives, polymers etc., the stabilizer for trichloroethane, components of photo sensor. There are two common processes for 1,3-dioxolane production, one uses paraformaldehyde and MEG as the raw material, while the other starts from concentrated formalin and MEG. SL-TECH has been specialized in dioxolane production since 2008 based on concentrated formalin and MEG.

As the second monomer for polyacetal production, 1,3-dioxolane has attracted great attention in recent years due to the expansion of its application, such as the solvent for grease, dyes, cellulose derivatives, polymers etc., the stabilizer for trichloroethane, components of photo sensor. There are two common processes for 1,3-dioxolane production, one uses paraformaldehyde and MEG as the raw material, while the other starts from concentrated formalin and MEG.

SL-TECH has been specialized in dioxolane production since 2008 based on concentrated formalin and MEG. To be detailed, in presence of concentrated acid catalyst, enriched formalin and MEG reacts with each other at 90-100℃ under atmospheric pressure, the obtained mixture is then transferred to enrichment unit, extraction unit, heavy component distillation unit and light component distillation unit in subsequence to get the on-spec 1,3-dioxolane product.

Technical Features
Compared to the other route beginning from paraformaldehyde and MEG, the process SL-TECH developed has advantages as below:
● It has no formalin polymerization, paraformaldehyde drying and aging units, thereby the investment and the production cost is much lower.
● It uses concentrated sulfuric acid as the catalyst, which makes the conversion yield much higher.
